What are you afraid of?

A few things to reflect on

Patience! Motherhood can test you from many angles. Breastfeeding alone can result in depression. There is the lack of sleep, work life balance, parenting decisions and pressure from other things. So taking it easy, one day at a time with lots of patience is very important. But one thing for sure is, being a mother is super amazing and a gift.

From the shoutings, to the beatings and everything in between, we all know how it was growing up those days in an African home. Specifically, what my parents didn’t do that I have taken it upon my self to do in my own home is, communicating with my kids. Not everything is beating and shutting them up, you’ll be surprised how much these kids know and how desperately they need our guidance to help them navigate through life. Secondly, is to consciously identify their strengths and weaknesses, nurture them young and help them become the best versions of themselves while being comfortable and happy with who they are and their uniqueness.

One thing to ask yourself

What am I afraid of? Motherhood is a very fascinating adventure full of self doubt, criticism and it is also a very beautiful journey to be on. A lot of us are doing it afraid. Because we had been told that it would be stressful before we even embarked it. However, strip yourself of what other people are saying and pin point the source of your own fear. Everyone is afraid of something. Perhaps if you can name it, we can then start to figure out what to do about it.

Let’s hear it. Respond to this mail to share what it is.

One thing to try this weekend

How about we see a movie this weekend. Carve out some “Me” time and indulge in seeing a movie. Try not to sleep off before the end of the movie (T, I am talking to you 👀) Just have some fun this weekend. You deserve it.

Mailbag

We have gotten a few emails from you beautiful people asking questions on various subjects. So, I thought it would be nice to answer the questions in our newsletters periodically so that everyone else can benefit from it.

Here we go;

Question 1: “I personally I would like to know what breakfast is good for the baby of 3years old I been suffering with this”.

Question 2: “what of when ur kids turn to be selective? like my kid does not eat egg, Noddles, pasta, at times plantain. pls help me”.

Response: Well, we have shared some amazing food ideas for your little ones in our newsletter. And if those still do not work, I say trust your gut. Try as much as possible to give him/her the food that everyone eats at home, but there is no crime in giving them what they want to eat as well. You cannot watch them starve, can you? Make their food colourful and interesting to eat. You can get children to eat their food by making those shapes and faces on their food. It’s a lot of work, but you would have to be intentional about this. Learn new recipes of how to make the healthy food you want them to eat into fascinating shapes and sizes that your children will love. Continue to try and eventually, it will pay off. Well, some will and the others might not. Take your win where you can, Mama.

Question 3: “My baby is just two weeks old. I need help in taking care of my newborn. my first child.”

Congratulations, Mama. Omg! you are the real MVP. Everything we write on Umi is with you and all of us in mind. We are all walking the same path. So, we do all our research and write every newsletter so that we will give you the right information. Everything we’ve written so far is here. Find the wisdom that applies to you and use it for yourself and your baby. But at the end of the day, trust your instincts. No one knows that baby more than you. Take it one day at a time. You are already doing so amazing. Well done!

You can also send in your questions. If I don’t have an answer for you, I will find someone who is more qualified.

Enjoy your weekend.
